So, You Want to Be an Actor

Do you have what it takes to become an actor?

Serious acting can be hard work. Although some actors may it seem so easy, they may in fact, spend hours perfecting the craft. There are some qualities, with which good actors are born, but characteristics such as focused relaxation, concentration and the ability to relax in tense situations are almost essential for the good actor. Just like good athletes, good actors must develop the ability to channel nervous energy.

If you observe some of the good actors, you may notice an almost imperceptible ability they have, to be able to think on their feet. Because they may be so skillful at it, it often goes unnoticed. Good acting often requires that you remain relaxed, even though the character portrayed is under stress. Performances must appear natural and do not seem as acting. The objective of becoming a good actor, includes recreating the many facets of human behavior. To be an actor, it is necessary to learn how to behave as a human in the theatrical setting.

If you are really serious about wanting to learn how to start acting, you should give some thought as to what success may mean to you as an actor. The act of setting goals, can be the motivation force in any profession. It may be unrealistic to think of success as stardom, because stardom as much as we know it, is a complex arrangement involving, politics, business, publicity and management. The so-called "star" is sometimes a very tiny component of an enormous machine. Success as an actor, should be seen more as a milestone of achievement in any chosen profession.

A career in acting is probably one of the most difficult, in which to achieve success. Skill, talent and creativity does not guarantee success, as it may in other professions. The life of an actor is insecure. There is no regular pay or advances, and good jobs may not necessarily lead to more opportunities. Considerable resources are often necessary for a long and sometimes arduous journey. Consider the years spent in preparation, as well as money spent in acting classes, pictures, wardrobe. Eventual relocation to acting hubs may necessary to further your career, and the competition can be fierce.

When you learn how to start acting, you may soon appreciate that success requires some element of luck. But luck can be induced and encouraged, often by keeping contacts alive and looking out for opportunities. It may be necessary to continue developing and polishing your craft, while being self-disciplined and persistent.

Surprisingly, the least important component is talent, which can never replace hard work. If you are willing to endure, your dream of becoming an actor can still be realized.
